Building Safer Communities:
Here’s how United Way Central New Brunswick is making your community safer now and in the future.
Public Safety Canada selected Fredericton as a recipient of the Building Safer Communities fund. United Way partnered with the City of Fredericton to become the organization responsible for managing this youth crime prevention program.
What will we accomplish? Three initiatives:
- Creating a city-wide crime prevention strategy and promoting greater collaboration amongst professionals who work with youth.
- Supporting the operation of new, youth-led crime prevention projects.
- Funding and supporting new crime prevention projects operated by community organizations.
What have we done in the first four months?
The project has funded:
1: two new youth service hubs:
- New Brunswick African Association’s Right Relations Youth Service Hub
- Capital Region Mental Health & Addictions Association’s Youth Wellness Hub
- Partners for Youth’s “Youth Works” program
- John Howard Society of Fredericton’s “Youth Connections” program
- Fredericton High School’s “Understanding Community Resources for Youth and Families” video series
- The Fredericton Youth Crime Prevention Network website will launch this month! The site is a resource and information-sharing platform on youth crime prevention-related services for local
- The first Intersectoral Child & Youth Planning Table meeting (March 26) gives local organizations a recurring opportunity to coordinate effective delivery of services to youth and their families.
- The Youth Capacity Building April 28 this event will teach youth skills to develop and run their own crime prevention projects.
- Our United Way proudly coordinates Building Safer Communities because it aligns with our youth and personal safety priorities.
