NEWS RELEASE

Fredericton, NB, January 13, 2010 – CIBC is pleased to announce a total donation of $41,408 to United Way of Central New Brunswick from the bank’s 2009 United Way fundraising campaign.

This total includes CIBC’s corporate gift of $17,975, which was presented to United Way of Central New Brunswick on December 4.

The balance of $23,433 comes from CIBC employee pledges and a variety of local activities to raise even more money for United Way.

In November and December, several local CIBC employees also took part in Days of CaringTM, a United Way program that brings workplaces, employees, community groups and agencies to work on-site at community projects.

CIBC employees sanitized toys and sorted games and toys at the Fredericton Boys and Girls Club at the Henry Parks facility/South Devon Elementary School on Medley Street. Other bank staff helped out at the Fredericton SPCA at 165 Hilton Road cuddling, grooming and walking animals. Another bank employee did dishes, served meals and cleaned up at the Community Kitchen at 65 Brunswick Street, while others will spend a half-day helping out at the Fredericton Food Bank at 860 Grandame Street.

“We greatly appreciate CIBC’s continued generosity,” said Frank Russell, Executive Director of United Way of Central New Brunswick. “These are challenging times for many families and individuals who turn to front-line agencies for support to help make ends meet. With donations such as this, we are able to support a broad range of social programs and services that are focused on critical areas in our community, such as assisting families dealing with poverty, supporting people with a disability or health condition, and keeping kids off the streets.”

“Through our long-standing contributions to United Way and the volunteer efforts of our employees, CIBC is helping to create stronger and healthier communities for families to live, work and raise their children,” said Phil Filleul, CIBC’s Associate Vice-President for New Brunswick. “CIBC is one of the top corporate contributors to United Way in Canada. Each fall during our campaign, thousands of our employees demonstrate their overwhelming support for local United Way agencies through their fundraising efforts and personal donations.”

CIBC is committed to supporting causes that matter to our clients, our employees and our communities.  We aim to make a difference in communities through corporate donations, sponsorships and the volunteer spirit of employees.  With a strategic focus on youth, education and health, and employee commitment to causes including the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, the CIBC Children’s Foundation and United Way, we are investing in the social and economic development of communities across the country. In 2009, almost $27 million was contributed through the CIBC group of companies to charitable and non-profit initiatives in Canada, supporting a wide variety of national, regional and local organizations.
